১৯২৯ খ্রিষ্টাব্দের ৩১ ডিসেম্বর (১৬ই পৌষ ১৩৩৬), নাট্যকার মন্মথ রায় রচিত ‘মহুয়া’নাটকটি মনোমোহন থিয়েটারে’মঞ্চস্থ হয়েছিল।তৃতীয় অঙ্ক বেদেনীদের গানে এই গানটি ব্যবহৃত হয়েছিল। উল্লেখ্য, মন্মথ রায় নাটকটি ৪-১৯ ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে রচনা করেছিলেন। এই সময় নজরুলের বয়স ছিল- ৩০ বৎসর ৭ মাস।

কাজী নজরুল) বিংশ শতাব্দীর একজন প্রধান বাঙালি কবি এবং সঙ্গীতজ্ঞ ছিলেন। মাত্র 23 বছরের তাঁর সাহিত্য জীবনে সৃজনশীলতার প্রাচুর্য অতুলনীয়। সাহিত্যের বিভিন্ন শাখায় বিচরণ করলেও কবি হিসেবেই তাঁর মূল পরিচয়। স্কুল থেকে স্নাতক হওয়ার আগে তিনি 1917 খ্রিস্টাব্দে ব্রিটিশ ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীতে যোগ দেন। একটি মুসলিম পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন এবং শৈশবে ইসলামিক শিক্ষায় দীক্ষিত হন, তিনি একটি ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ পরিচয় নিয়ে বেড়ে ওঠেন। সেই সঙ্গে তার মধ্যে গড়ে ওঠে বিদ্রোহী সত্তা। 1922 সালে তিনি রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহের দায়ে ব্রিটিশ সরকার কর্তৃক কারারুদ্ধ হন।
